Shevy's concert went wonderful!
The students absolutely loved Shevy and we got really good feedback
from the audience. The show went smoothly and the students fed off
her enthusiasm and energy. The facebook event we had for Shevy kept
getting responses after the show thanking her for coming to Western
and saying how she inspired them. Also, she sold more CD's then any
past musician we had at Mug Shots! Shevy is an excellent musician
and a genuine person, we truly enjoyed having her come to Western
and wish her the best of luck! It was wonderful to work with you!
Thank you and take care!

Shevy's show was amazing! She is a great live performer and the audience loved her! We had so many requests to bring her back from last year from the students and are getting the same kind of requests again. She was a pleasure to work with! We really enjoyed Shevy and would love to stay updated in her musical career.

Shevy's performance was great! She played longer than expected because
the crowd was enjoying her. The crowd loved it and only had good
things to say. She was very personable and appreciative of us booking
her. Great performer and humble... and man can that girl eat!! (she'll

the Shevy Smith Show performance went well. I was in and out and
didn't get to hear/see much, but the students seemed to enjoy the
show. It was a fun event for our campus...something different than
what we have done in the past. Our faculty/staff enjoyed the show
as well. Shevy was great to work with, so energetic and positive.

First of all, thank you so much for working with us on getting Shevy
Smith to Ripon. She was an absolute delight! Unfortunately, we had
a less than par crowd that night, but that in no part was due to
Shevy's talent. It was a very hectic night for the students of Ripon
College. Nevertheless, those that were in attendance have been raving
the past day and a half; they thought she, along with her music,
was great. Hopefully we can get her back to campus in the future
and provide the audience she deserves.

The Shevy Smith show went
great! She is an incredible young woman, and I think that everyone
who attended her show really enjoyed her performance. I didn't hear
any negative feedback, only positive! Shevy was a joy to work

I have nothing but great
things to say about Shevy. She's very friendly and is so good at
putting people at ease. I thought her show went very well. Everyone
who attended was blown away by her talent; she has a gorgeous voice
and great stage presence! Shevy is really the whole package: talent,
personality, and beauty! I'm really glad we had her at Wartburg.
I'd recommend her in a heartbeat.

The show with Shevy went really well! She is really easy to work
with- set-up and sound check were a breeze! Our students responded
wonderfully to her. My favorite thing about her is that she connects
every note, lyric, and song with something that everyone can relate
to. There was quite a crowd of gentlemen that stayed after to talk
to her and I know that our committee had a great time talking to
her before and after the show... She's definitely someone that we
are going to have back!

Everything with Shevy went great. She was amazing to work with;
no trouble at all. The audience received her well considering it
was a Monday night and she got some laughs and always got applauded.
As a performer, she was very good. She looked as though she was
enjoying herself, which is always nice to see from someone who performs.

I just wanted to let you know that Shevy was awesome! Everyone I
talked to afterward loved her too. Her talk about the USO and the

Oh, without a doubt – Shevy was fantastic. Everything was very
smooth and she’s super easy to work with. That’ll never
change. J Audience response was so different for us, in a great way.
Very seldom does the audience listen so intently to an artist’s
story and music – it was a nice change of pace to have the entire
room quiet except for Shevy. Everyone just seemed to be enchanted
with her and what she had to express. It was cool to see.

Feedback from two advisors and the music chair at Oshkosh
The
show went great! She is awesome-everyone loved her. She opened for
our weekly Open Mic, then ended the night with another set. During
the open mic, she was very helpful and if Dave the MC asked her
to come on stage to join in with some of the participants, she did
that too. She was awesome to work with (all your performers are).
She made a funny comment on how you usually book a tour for her
doing states like North Dakota, Wisconsin, Minnesota during February,
except once she went to Florida instead-everyone got a kick out
of that, as Wednesday night, it got very cold after an unusual spell
of above normal temperatures. When she called about a week ago,
I promised nice weather while she was in Oshkosh - and it was until
the next day.
Jerry Bloesl, Director of Student Activities , University of
Wisconsin Oshkosh
The show was wonderful! She arrived in plenty of time, set up was
a breeze, and the crowd loved her! She adapted well to the change
of venue (from the Club in the basement to the Coffee house set
up).We were very pleased with everything! I look forward to more
collaboration,

Shevy was great. I'm really glad we were able to change our original
agreement a bit and have her along with the open mic. She was very
supportive of all the other artists that played. and everyone really
enjoyed her. People liked the stories that she told between songs.
and were very interested in talking with her about her travels and
experiences in the music industry. Great program!

were all pleased with her. The audience loved her and any male within
any radius of Shevy had a crush on her. She was easy to have around;
her music was popular. I think she sold more CDs than any artist we
have had on campus.

Shevy Smith was a wonderful delight! She’s truly sweet, friendly,
and very approachable. The present individuals very much enjoyed the
quirky humor in her personal stories, as well as the gentle melodies
and heartfelt lyrics of her songs. Many stayed after to ask questions
and compliment her performance. I personally received high praise
days later from audience members for having her here. She is definitely
a performer to keep!

Shevy's show went very well. she blew quite a few of us away. we knew
from her video that she'd be pretty good, but really she exceeded
our expectations by leaps and bounds. and not to mention shes so easy
and sucha a pleasure to work with. definately dont let her go, shes
got great things hidden up her sleeve. I think the audience went into
this expecting one of two things a lot of guys thought she'd be just
a hot girl who will play some decent songs, and the girls seemed to
think shed be another mediocre singer-songwriter chick and both were
pleasantly surprised by her talent, and her performance. I'd love
to have her back on campus again, she definatley met my standards.

Shevy did a wonderful job. We usually have only about ten people in
our cafeteria during the time period she played, but we had 100 people
come and hear her play which was wonderful. We had positive comments
on our evaluation for example someone said "it is about time
we do a program that creates a cool college campus." So we are
going to continue the Thurs. in Lancers once a month. I even got the
director of that area to agree to programming next year.

I personally couldn't have been more excited for Shevy to come. And
I of course was not disappointed. We could have definitely talked
all night long! Too bad she had to head back on the road. Yeah, as
far as the show, we've never had an autograph line of more than 10
people...Shevy had a line for a half-an hour. The attendance was the
highest 1.) of the whole school year series, and 2.) tied for overall
of the 3 years I've been doing Acoustic Wednesdays! I think there
were many people definitely satisfied when they left. House, I've
never been disappointed with any of your artists that we book. Each
one seems to raise the standards and set their own limits. Thanks

to have her back this year given the small venue, but man am I sold
on her. Great time, great person! We're all booked up, but weve got
this show on April 29th with Emerson Drive that I would love an opener

anticipated; we had around 60 students there. However, the audience
loved her and several of them bought her cd and stayed around to talk
with her. It was a great show. We can’t wait to get her back!

Shevy was very good as a performer and a person. As usual, we had
a major crowd, all those who were there really enjoyed her, and she
was a good fit, style-wise, for us for Homecoming. She was on time,
very friendly, hung around a bit afterward and sounded good. Thank
you much.

Shevy was excellent once again. I actually think she is getting better
as a performer. More relaxed, more skilled with the crowd. The keyboard
was a nice addition to the show. Lastly, she is just a pleasant person
to work with – I’m rooting for her and her career. I think
she has great potential.
Darrin Witucki, Director of Student Activities - University of
Wisconsin at Stout
Shevy is AMAZING! We loved her. The concert was a success in that
she had a blast, our sponsors loved her and so did my boss.
Ron Dillon, Mountain Home Air Force Base
The show was great! Shevy tore up the stage. She played a hour set
and the crowd loved every minute of it. When I heard her sing I was
in shock. I see this girl going places.
Andrew McClellan, Concerts Chair – Western Illinois University
We had a great time with Shevy and the students loved her. She was
very good with the audience and projected a very comfortable atmosphere.
She was very accommodating and did a great job!
Kellie Jettie, Coordinator of Student Life - Salt Lake Community

Shevy Smith was absolutely awesome! Everyone just loved her and she
was so easy to work with. We would like to have her back again next
year!
Kim Jackson, DSA – Big Bend Community College
Shevy was absolutely FABULOUS! She was very natural with the audience
and our students really responded to that. Utah State loved her and
we would LOVE to have her back any time in the future. Shevy will
go places, I'm sure of it! Thank you for being so great to work with;
it was truly a pleasure.
Kathy Leslie, Activities VP – Utah State University
Shevy did an awesome job. She had a really great crowd. Even though
she was sick she did an amazing job. No one was disappointed.
Emily Hohl - McKendree College
Thank you!! Shevy ROCKED! Not only was she talented, but just an overall
wonderful person to talk with. Everyone was very impressed with her
voice and song writing. Thanks for recommending such a great artist!
Amanda Holtz Coordinator of Student Activities & Leadership,
Concordia University Wisconsin
Shevy's concert was great. She is a very sweet person and very easy
to work with. The band complemented her well and the students enjoyed
her set. There were about 75 students who attended. The crowd seemed
to connect with her and enjoyed her style and original songs. She
is a talented musician and I'd recommend her to any Student Activities
Colleague.
Erin Byrne, Program Coordinator, Notre Dame
Wow. I must say that even though this was my first show, it went off
without a hitch. Shevy is great to work with! If it was anyone else
that I was doing my first show with, I really don't think it would
have went off as smoothly. And as a performer, Shevy is amazing. I
bought a CD and it doesn't do her voice justice. She is an amazing
singer and entertainer. I must admit, she was up there for and hour
and a half and it felt like 10 minutes. There were no dragging moments
at all; she even kept us entertained between songs. I have to get
her to come back next year. She could easily become one of those "Campus
Favorite" artists, and I believe she will.
Brian McIntire, Western Illinois University
Shevy Smith was absolutely amazing! I was extremely impressed with
her both as a performer and as an all around person. The people who
came loved her to death. Lots of them were upset that she didn't have
CDs on hand, but we'll be ordering online sometime soon. Several students
approached me and told me how much they enjoyed the music. She was
a joy to work with and I hope to see her again sometime.
Andrew Embry, Butler University, SGA Coffeehouse Chair
Shevy Smith was absolutely the best performer we have had in a while.
She was very personable with the audience as well as the students
who hosted her. She was very down to earth, and made you feel like
she was singing just to you. We couldn't have asked for a better performer.
The audience was absolutely crazy about her and stuck around for a
good half hour after the show to chat with her bout life, music, and
the road. Her coffee house was a big hit, and we have already started
getting requests for her to come back next year from the student body.
Anthony Jones, Eureka College - CAB Events Chair
Shevy Smith was great. Very friendly. She recorded some radio spots
for us, and hung around to sign autographs and do an interview for
the school paper. She was just all around awesome, from her music
to her interaction with everyone there. It was a great way to kick
off women’s history month.
University of Pittsburgh – Bradford
It was a wonderful show last night with Shevy Smith. We had 160 students
and staff in attendance. As you know, this was our first coffeehouse
in Starbuck’s in the new Student Union. We couldn’t have
scheduled a better performer to start this series. Shevy is an amazing
singer-songwriter and easily one of the best entertainers with whom
I have worked during my 22 years at Akron.
Tom Faessel, University of Akron
Shevy Smith put on a great show. Here at Maryville, we look hard to
find female musicians to bring, and this was a great choice. Not only
did Shevy play well, but she was so nice to work with. She was so
friendly and easy-going and everyone had a great time.
Jenna Puricelli, CAB President - Maryville University
Shevy Smith’s performance was GREAT!! She not only has great
stage presence but is really a sweet gal! She had a sore throat last
night, but she improvised very well and sounded great! She even interacted
with the audience with "Free Fallin'"...it was very well
received and the audience loved her! We had a good turnout and everything
went great!
Ashley Movold, Music Chair – Truman State
Shevy ROCKED! Not only was she talented, but just an overall wonderful
person to talk with. Everyone was very impressed with her voice and
song writing. Thanks for recommending such a great artist!
Amanda Holtz - Coordinator of Student Activities & Leadership,

Shevy Smith was great! She was wonderful to talk to, was really open
to the crowd and stayed after to speak with the audience. It was an
all-around great job.
Will Lamborn, Concert Coordinator - University of Kansas
The program was great, and Shevy was very sweet and easy to work with.
Everyone truly enjoyed the show.
Erin Cron, Student Programming - University of Nebraska at Omaha,

Shevy was a jewel and the students enjoyed the performance. Thanks...have
a fabulous Thanksgiving holiday.
Wilma - Doane College in Crete, NE
Shevy Smith was easily a top artist that visited the University of
Kentucky. Not only was she fun to listen to, but her ability to be
friendly can really liven up the audience. Nice job Shevy !
Jason Ashley, Student - University of Kentucky
It was about a hundred degrees during the outdoor show, but Shevy
made it feel like 1000 derees! She was on fire! !"
Scott, Student - Pittsburg State University (KS)
"Thank you so much for recommending Shevy. She put on a awesome
show and everyone loved her. Even the President of PSU stopped me
and said how much he liked her. Thanks for being so easy to work with!"
Ed Wirthwein, Asst. Dir. of Campus Activities - Pittsburg State

"UND had a great time with Shevy! I was very impressed by her
performance. What a wonderful person and artist. We will have to have
her back soon so more students can hear what she has to offer. Thanks
for a great show!"
Danielle Elbert, Outgoing UPC Chair - University of North Dakota
(Grand Forks)
"Shevy was great to have on campus. She's a laid back and personable
individual. Before the show you are talking to this young woman who
seems a lot like the college students that we interact with on a daily
basis. . .Then, she gets on stage and you soon realize that a seasoned
performer has taken the stage. She has incredibly strong vocals and
it caught the sound-guy a little by surprise. She really seemed to
have the audience fully engaged. That was confirmed when the guys
from Facilities Maintenance bought a bunch of CD's after the show!
I told Shevy that was a first. . .when you have the Maintenance guys
buying CDs you had a good show."
Darrin Witucki, DSA - University of Wisconsin at Stout (Menomonie)
"Shevy is a great performer with an amazing voice! Comments around
the office are that she was very talented, put on a great show, and
was very popular with the guys in the audience. She had one of the
most well attended performances of the whole summer!"
Molly Gale, Summer Music Coordinator - University of Minnesota
Twin Cities (Minneapolis)
"Shevy Smith was great! People really liked her and her performance
was wonderful. We had a lot of staff and students purchase her CD.
Thanks for recommending her for our summer concert series."
Kimberly Haiman, Coordinator of Student Activities - North Dakota
State University (Fargo)
"Shevy Smith was easily a top artist that visited the University
of Kentucky. Not only was she fun to listen to, but her ability to
be friendly can really liven up the audience. Nice job Shevy. Let's
go surfing!"
Jason Ashley, Student - University of Kentucky (Lexington)
Interview (back to top)
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in central Kansas on a farm surrounded by gravel roads,
wheat fields, the whole shebang.
How did your childhood/upbringing influence
your decision to be a musician?
I think that the wide-open space and seemingly endless amount of free
time really helped to develop my creative mind. I think I would write
in a very different way had I grown up around the entertainment industry
and the parameters it enforces.
What other influences in your life encouraged
you to pursue a career in music?
I am doing this because I can't NOT do it. My parents always stressed
the fact that there is no ceiling on dreams.
When did you start performing on the
road?
I started doing gigs pretty steadily when I was about 14 years old.
(Of course, back then many of the gigs consisted of yodeling through
rodeo PA systems.)
Is there a particular part of the music
business you like the most (i.e. songwriting, touring, singing, etc.)?
That would have to be the combo of writing and touring. To write a
song and then be able to affect somebody with it is the ultimate payoff.
How often do you write?
Pretty much every day. I wish it was a faucet I could turn off, because
I often find myself tortured by endless thoughts as I try to go to
sleep, but I tend to be kicking around something in my mind at all
times. Although, I can't say as though I sit down with a pen and piece
of paper absolutely every day.
What do you like about touring on the
college circuit?
To be in this business and also be able to interact with your peers
is really a cool thing. I find other people's lives so much more interesting
than my own, and the college circuit seems to be full of people pursuing
intriguing paths.
What do you do to pass the time on the
road when you're not performing?
I grew up with only older brothers, so I am always inclined to fill
my time with sports. I love running, water skiing, basketball, and
watching (college) football.
How would you describe your music? Who
do you consider to be your musical influences?
As indescribable:) No, seriously, I guess I would say that it is roots
rock with a lyrical focus. My influences are mainly rooted in the
seventies. Tom Petty, Emmylou, Jackson Browne. I also love Sheryl
Crow, the Counting Crows, the Chili Peppers, and Suzy Bogguss.
Do
you have any formal training?
I began classical piano when I was four years old and continued until
high school. I took guitar lessons for about a year and a half when
I was in high school. I am also learning to play the penny whistle
(but not formally).
What kind of music do you currently
listen to?
I try not to be a musical snob, so pretty much anything. In rotation
right now I have Randy Scrugg's "Crown of Jewels," the Counting
Crows greatest hits album, Tom Petty "She's the One" and
I recently pulled out Alanis "Jagged Little Pill" for a
refresher.
What
other passions do you have besides music?
I love to paint with oils. I love my yellow lab, Vivienne. I am extremely
passionate about Kansas State athletics. I would have to say my true
passion is the water. Someday I will live by the water and ski everyday.
So, if you are a school by the sea, PLEASE book me.
What
advice would you give someone who wants to become a full-time musician?
Be an incredible musician, but more importantly be reliable. A lot
of people on the creative side are unfortunately pretty flaky. If
you can be counted upon, you will get the call over the questionable
guy every time. |
