Raquel Lily
Originally hailing from the Philippines, Lily grew up in a musical family and began performing from a young age. She listened to everything from classic rock [with The Beatles being her biggest influence] to heavy metal, which seemed to shape her own unique musical style. It was not until college in Miami that she picked up her acoustic guitar and seriously started singing and writing. “All of my songs are based on specific experiences and actual stories and metaphors about myself”, says Lily. [...]Her passion for writing and telling stories is evident in her work. Music is just another way she connects with people and helps bring them together, despite [their] differences. “Being able to share my stories with others and have it impact them in some way, or even to just make them smile in the crowd is in itself rewarding.” Her joy for music is certainly infectious. You can not help but smile and sing along with you hear her catchy melodies and lyrics. Listening to tracks such as “Killer” and “Without You” will have you singing and tapping your toes for the rest of the day. Her music can be described as [indie-pop]/rock with some jazz influences. Her clear, powerful voice perfectly complements her unique style and sound.

We were very pleased to have Raquel and her special guest with us last night!  Raquel is an incredibly talented vocalist with a special gift for connecting with audience members. She performed a wide variety of songs (including a few original pieces!) which appealed to the wide variance of attendees. Raquel arrived on time and brought all of her equipment and merchandise materials. After the show she personally signed posters for students and staff members. She was incredibly easy to work with. Akron loved having her with us for our coffee shop series. Thank you again.   - Cassie Enterline, Graduate Advisor - RHPB, University of Akron, Akron, OH

We LOVED having her on campus last week! We had about 70 students in attendance (and for the 2nd day back from winter break with only about ½ of the students on campus, that’s a great number for us). After seeing Raquel at NACA MidAmerica, we started advertising for her show on campus by using her Spotify music to get students interested. That certainly worked! The students loved hearing her sing and her stories and quite a few were able to get CDs and hung out after the show to chat with her. They even asked for an encore song, and Raquel was gracious enough to honor that request!    Overall, the event was great. Raquel was great. We would love to try to bring her back in the future!
